Maternity Photo Shoot-Sneak Peek

Posted by Tara

Happy Monday! Nick and I had a fun weekend---we had our maternity photo shoot on Saturday. Our photographer is really amazing...check out a few sneak peeks of some of our pictures on her blog: http://laurawinslowphotography.com/blog/

And if you leave a comment, you'll help us get a free 8x10 picture. All we need are 15 family and friends to leave a comment on her blog. :)

In a couple of weeks, we should have the full gallery of photos to view. Those are private though and will require a password to view. If anyone is interested in seeing those too, just let me know and I'll send you the info when it becomes available.

Thanks!

32 Week Belly Pic

Posted by Tara

We hit 32 weeks today and that means I'm in my 8th month! Woo-hoo! Hopefully I only have 6 more weeks to go now.

Baby’s senses are continuing to improve -- when light peeks in through your (extremely) stretched belly, those tiny eyelids and irises blink and dilate. And, baby can now recognize and react to simple songs… time to start practicing your lullabies! Growth (at least inside your womb) is starting to slow, and you may notice baby descend into your pelvis at the end of this month.

Yup, I think that belly definitely resembles a honeydew! :-)

In closing, we wanted to share a couple of cute pictures that Nick got yesterday. Mudpie is enjoying the nursery too. In fact, we have never seen her so excited and happy...leaping about, spinning in midair. She likes to sneak under the baby's crib...

I've shared before that the cats love to nap inside my closet. I've had to take my clothes out of my top drawer and put a towel in there instead. I can't believe that A) This drawer held almost 40 lbs of cat and B) Josie tolerated this much closeness in her napping place.

From the looks of this, you'd think they were the best of friends!

Nursery Pics!

We spent Halloween cleaning out our office and setting up the nursery! We have the BEST bible study/small group/friends...they came over to help us out and I am ever so grateful. All the men in our group are daddies already, so they had plenty of experience putting together cribs. :-) The ladies kept me company and vacuumed and even put together our swing. It's wonderful how much can get done in just a couple hours with many helping hands!

Here's our nursery (so far). No pictures on the walls yet...we still have decorating to do but I am thrilled with having this much set up!

There's a lot of space under the crib and changing table for all of the baby things we've had piled in the living room until now.

I am so pleased with our choice of wood for the crib! It matches the bedding perfectly. The bedding is called "Forest Friends" by the way. :-) Too cute! We love it!!

We'll see if our IKEA chair proves to be a comfy spot for feedings.

More baby stuff

Before I had a chance to move items under the crib, Josie had to check things out...

The crib has now been set up for over 24 hours and all the cats have done is go lay underneath it for awhile. Neither one has even attempted to jump into the crib or onto the changing table. Whew! We'll see how curious they are when the baby is actually in the crib, but for now we are very happy they aren't inclined to make the baby's bed their new napping place. :-)

Fun with Strawberries

Mudpie hopped up to visit while the cats were napping...

Harvey enjoyed using Mudpie as a soft pillow

Mudpie really loves strawberries...

Enough to eat them off of Josie :)

hehe

They all tolerated this for a surprising amount of time!

30 Weeks, 30 Years, and Zzzzz

Posted by Tara

I turned 30 years old AND 30 weeks pregnant this week! ;-) Pretty cool!

As far as my birthday goes, it was nice and low key. I am too tired these days to do much partying! :-) But my wonderful husband and family did a lot to make my birthday special. My mom made me dinner and cake, brought me flowers and a "pregnant woman's gift" (soft, comfy pjs and cookies! yay!).

If you like the show NCIS, you'll appreciate Nick's gift to me. If not, you'll find this weird. But there is a character on the show who has a stuffed hippo she keeps in her office and when she hugs it, it farts. I normally do not find farting funny at all, but this I find hilarious. Probably because it's a hippo...

At any rate, awhile ago I told Nick I really needed a farting hippo. I can't believe he remembered, or had the time to sneak off to do this and I had no idea. But he went to Build a Bear Factory and made me this:

Jethro the Panda and my birthday flowers

They didn't have hippos, but he knows I love pandas. He had to buy a whooppee cushion and install it in such a way that it would work inside the panda. Now I have a farting panda. :-) It sounds so juvenile, but it really is a stress reliever to have in your office at work. Just hug it as needed. It's especially fun when there are unsuspecting coworkers nearby...

My lovely hubby also picked up dinner for my birthday so I didn't have to waddle out of the house. I enjoyed a relaxing night on the couch watching NCIS with my little family and getting kicked by a very active baby.

I am very tired. Very, very tired. I am trying to recall my first trimester fatigue and I can't remember if it was this bad. All I know is, this is tough. I am getting bigger and bigger, and things like turning over in bed, washing dishes, or even walking out to the car are wearing me out.

The good news is, as of this week I am working from home full time. No more dressing up, trying to put on work shoes, or getting up really early. I am so thankful!

So are the animals. We spend a lot of time snuggling on the couch together and they are happy I'm home every day now. Especially Mudpie, who prefers watching tv from the coffee table instead of her cage.

Here are just a bunch of funny pictures of the laziness around our house:

hello there, do you like my whiskers?

napping on a bed of hay is the best

why is this cat in my cage?

seriously...

help!

much better!

I love 8 hour NCIS marathons with mommy on the couch!

this is the life

okay, enough pictures!

I have a big belly...I eat too many carrots. And you humans thinks carrots are a diet food! HA!

Work Shower

Posted by Tara

Our office threw us a baby shower yesterday. It was so much fun!

yummy Mexican potluck

cute!

Dad and Mom!

all the lovely ladies we work with...

yes, men were invited and only 2 showed up...baby showers aren't very manly...but the other guys were sweet and gave us a gift, which was very nice of them! :)

opening lots of gifts! I had just asked a few friends what else I needed, after noting what we already had for the baby. And we received everything but one thing at our shower! What a HUGE blessing!!

Part of the fun of this shower was Nick being involved. He got two very Daddy-specific gifts. This here is a manly, rugged diaper bag/backpack.

And a Jeep baby carrier. :) Both in Nick's favorite colors! I'm so happy he got to open some things that weren't all yellow and green and fuzzy. :)

28 Week Belly Pic!

We hit a major milestone this week! We are officially in the 3rd trimester!! I'm so happy.

This is one big belly people!!

This month, the baby is about the size of a squash:
I had my glucose test for gestational diabetes. It went very well, and I was told that I'd only get a call from the doctor if I didn't pass. It's been over a week and still no call! I'm hoping that means I passed.

We've ordered our nursery furniture, finally! So I hope to have some cute photos of the nursery for you in a couple of weeks. Next week will be an exciting week for me: we're having our work baby shower on Wednesday, and Friday will be my last day working in the office. After that, I'll be working from home full time and I cannot wait!

Nick and I have taken a tour of the maternity ward at the hospital we'll be delivering at. It's very beautiful and serene and we loved it. I'll also be scheduling my c-section soon too! I'll post more details on that later when I know the date. But it looks like we're aiming towards December 15-18. That means I'll only have about 10 more weeks to go! Yikes!

Some Baby Shower pictures

Posted by Tara

Here are a few baby shower photos I got on my camera. Between being hot, and then crying a lot, I was not looking so good in most of these! lol! But it was all for a good reason...read on...

Sarah's last gift to me at the shower. I screamed!! Baby Butterworth is getting a best friend: Baby Clark!

Lots of screaming and crying and hugging! This is my very best friend in the world: we've been friends since I was 13. We were in each other's weddings and now we're having babies together. How special!!

Excuse how we look (well, me in particular). We were all crying. But this pic needed to be taken of us 3 pregnant ladies together, all best friends. Fun times!

My lovely friend Brina! We were good friends in high school and haven't seen each other in about 8 years, other than on Facebook. I was so happy she could come to my shower.

Another pregnant friend! I actually used to babysit Tressa back when I was 15 and she was only 12. Hee! Now we're both going to be mommies. Her baby girl is due in February. Another California friend for Baby B to play with, yay!

The only halfway decent picture of me opening gifts. :) Still hoping someone else got a few more flattering shots. Does anyone like pictures of themselves with their mouths open? I don't. Anyway, this picture is a fave because I got this handmade quilt from Grandma Donna. It's gorgeous! And after having Donna as a 2nd mom for the past 17 years, I had no idea she crocheted! :)

My dear friend June!

Rich and Justin took us out to dinner after the shower. They even brought baby a gift, which was really sweet. As you can see here, not much has changed over the last 12 years that we've all been friends. Boys will always be boys I guess! :)

This is better!

Sarah and Justin. We've all been friends since high school! It was great getting together while I was in town.

Sarah and Brian on their way to an Angel game on Sunday before we left. I made them pose with the baby outfit I got from Justion and Rich. It was too perfect! :-)

Cloth Diapers, Part 1

Posted by Tara

Who would have thought picking out diapers could be so much fun? Before I started this adventure, I was 25% excited, 25% nervous and 50% determined. Now I'm just all excited (but still determined too)!

My meeting with the cloth diaper lady was great. I got quite the education, and boy am I grateful that I had a source to talk to one-on-one and ask as many questions as I wanted to! There are so many options out there, it's mind boggling! Now I feel confident and in-the-know.

The only thing I wasn't prepared for was finances. I didn't have a good idea of how much to budget, but I think we did a pretty good job. I got myself all set up for the newborn stages and soon I'll be purchasing another kit that will see us through until potty training time!

Here's what we got so far:

Prefolds with Snappis (no more scary pins these days!)

Thirsties diaper covers

These are called Kissaluvs. They are super soft and fuzzy and adorable. :-) I can't wait to see these on Baby's cute little bottom! These are called fitted cloth diapers because there's no folding or Snappis required, and are as easy to put on and take off as a disposable. I got a few of these as a backup for Daddy, Grandpa, or any of us changing a diaper at 3am on no-sleep and just can't handle dealing with folding a regular diaper. Just trying to be prepared...

Super soft cotton fleece, absorbent inner lining

All of these snaps make the diaper adjustable depending on how big baby is

I couldn't resist getting some aquas and blues in addition to the gender neutral colors...they are just diapers after all! ;-) If we do have a girl, I'm sure she won't mind. After all, I'm a girl and blue and green are my favorite colors! :-)

My diaper sack to go inside the diaper bag. Isn't it adorable? :)

It has a special liner and a swatch of fabric inside that is for essential oils---all of which keep the stink of dirty diapers well contained!

Baby Shower Goodies, Part 1

Posted by Tara

Our weekend in California was fantastic! The baby shower was so wonderful and full of blessings. I'm excited to share the details, and more pictures when I get them. I didn't get many pictures on my camera since I was so busy visiting and opening gifts, so I'm hoping everyone else that was snapping pictures will share theirs with me. :-)

For now though, here are some pictures of some of the goodies we received. These are mostly for my mom-in-law's enjoyment, since she wasn't able to join us for the fun and is eager to see all the cute stuff. :-)

a beautiful bassinet from Grandma Joanne and Aunt Dianne!

Josie has been laying underneath it ever since we got it home

so pretty!!

everything yellow and green (of course!) :-)

too cute!

super soft blanket and a lovey from Auntie June

homemade burp cloths from Grandma Donna

the Angels outfit is from Uncle Richie and Uncle Justin. How sweet is that? :-)

Winnie the Pooh cuteness, plus blankets, booties and a crib sheet from Grandma Donna

lots of goodies! from Grandma Donna, Uncle Rick, Aunt Holly and cousin Hailey

a Grandpa Darrell approved toy! ;-)

a few of the "big things" we received: high chair, jumperoo and swing
Most of these pictures are of the items we were able to fit into my mom's SUV. Everything else was packed into my brother and sister-in-law's car! All of that stuff still needs to be delivered to our house, so that's another slew of pictures. :-) We got a lot of neat Baby Einstein toys and all kinds of other stuff. We feel very spoiled!
Hopefully more pictures to come of the actual shower later...
