That night was another story. Connor's wound was still oozing blood and he managed to either rub it or bang it against the bars of his crib. He was up almost all night screaming. :( Thankfully, it scabbed over the next day and he's been fine with it since.
Nick arrived home from Joplin safely to find a very tired wife and baby very happy to see him at home. We took Connor to his 18 month well child visit the following day to discover he had a double ear infection. I can hardly believe that the child who is never sick and only had one minor ear infection in his whole life managed to come down with so many ailments in one week, plus a head wound! Our poor little boy. They cancelled his well child appointment since he wasn't well, sent us off to get antibiotics and try again in a few days. Luckily, that afternoon we all saw the chiropractor as well and that really helped! We did give Connor his antibiotics anyway and today he really did get a well-child check up.
Finally, a good day with good news! Connor got a clean bill of health. The doc said his ears were "crystal clear" and he kept saying he surprised because usually after just a few days the ears only look somewhat better. He pulled out Connor's staples and we were all very relieved that it didn't hurt him at all. Connor never even flinched or whimpered, praise God. Everything else looked great too, both developmentally and physically. This doctor is still relatively new to us, something that has been tough for me mostly because we were so close to our last pediatrician. So it is a true blessing for me to say that now, after 3 visits, I really like this doctor a lot and so does Connor and Nick. Connor really hammed it up for Dr. Steve and gave him his sweetest, toothiest grins. Dr. Steve paid us a huge compliment by telling us several times what a good boy Connor was. He said most kids his age don't cooperate with being examined and aren't as social. He said Connor was very social and smart and interactive, all things we knew and agreed with but of course it was nice to hear from his doctor. :)
As far as stats go, Connor is 32 inches tall and weighs 25 pounds. He's in the 25th percentile for weight (the same curve since birth) and 49th for height (a jump, but a healthy one). His head size was in the 55th percentile. Looking good! :) This momma is just glad Connor gained some weight. He is SO active and appears to eat very little in comparison. I always worry about food so I'll share my last good news of today: Connor ate a very healthy amount of pasta and veggies for dinner AND a fruit smoothie for dessert tonight! I was very happy. :)
At 18 months old, Connor is more physical than ever and is almost always running or climbing. He adores pushing toy cars everywhere. He loves to play chase, he loves animals more than ever and his new obsession is lizards, snakes and any reptile. He adores my mom's turtle Twila.
Connor just started saying actual words. He's picked up a few just in the last 2 weeks, so maybe he'll really take off from here. For months all he's said clearly is "uh oh" (LOL!). Now he is saying Mommy, Daddy, baby, up/uppy, and doggy. He understands and follows more complex directions so we know he understands so much of what is being said around him. He loves museums and is just so interested and enthusiastic about everything. It is awesome!
We went to a new aquarium recently and had so much fun.
Connor is very busy but he naps 2-3 hours every day (usually from 11am to 1-2pm) and sleeps 12 hours at night (7-7). We are very blessed!
