Make Yours Chocolate!

For four years, every Easter I asked Nick for a rabbit. One year, he did a lot of research about owning a rabbit and then surprised me by taking me to a rabbit adoption event in March. A sweet, soft brown bunny named Mudpie picked us to be her parents.

We went home with a large wire enclosure, toys, hay, food, and treats and Mudpie officially took over our living room. We "bun-proofed" the house and quickly learned that rabbits like to pee everywhere. Each week, Mudpie needed a trip to the market for a basketful of fresh veggies. Her twice-a-day salads were healthier than most of the meals we humans ate.




We fell in love with her though, and to this day we are thrilled we decided to adopt a rabbit. We'd love more one day, when we have more space and money. Rabbits are sociable and funny. They are soft and cute and love to be pet nicely, but not picked up and cuddled. They love to jump and hop and take over your house (if your cats will allow it). We are endlessly amused just watching Mudpie chomp on a carrot (yeah. we're weird).




Rabbits do not belong in a small cage in the garage, backyard or a child's bedroom. They need lots of exercise and freedom and attention. No wonder people who adopt rabbits are shocked when they haven't done their research beforehand! As a result, many "Easter bunnies" end up in shelters or homeless because their owners couldn't handle them. :( :(

We'll tell you without hesitation, rabbits are WONDERFUL pets but they are a huge commitment-a lifetime commitment!
