We have tried for many months to engage Connor in books. He was never very interested. :( He finally started sitting still long enough to get through a couple of pages, but his favorite thing to do with books is turn the pages, smack them, bite them, and pull them all off his bookshelf. :)
He got a new book for Christmas. It's about farm animals, is a touch-and-feel book, plus has flaps to make the animals play peek-a-boo. He loved it! He obviously recognizes certain animals and makes the connection from real animals to pictures in a book. For example, if he sees a cat anywhere (on TV, on the side of a box of kitty litter), he breaks out into a HUGE smile and giggles. It's very cute. :)
Our victory with books came this last week. Connor actually went to his bookshelf, picked out the farm animal book, came to me and handed me the book and sat in my lap to be read to! I was so surprised and my heart just melted. Since then, he does this a few times a day with both Nick and I.
He also enjoys looking at the book on his own.
This is still the only book he is interested in, so maybe I ought to get another touch-and-feel animal book? Connor sure loves touching the fur. It holds still much better than our cats. :)
Hooray for books!
