100 Mile Ride

Isn't it wonderful when you get the chance to do something you LOVE while also doing some good in the world? That's what Nick got to experience on Saturday. He went on a 100 mile ride on his scooter, along with lots of other bikers, to raise money and awareness for a project that Food for the Hungry has been involved in for a few years now. It's called Branded.

Branded works to help stop the child sex slavery problem in Phoenix. It's a heartbreaking issue and although Food for the Hungry concentrates their work overseas helping to fight hunger, this was one problem in our very own neighborhoods that really needed our help.

Nick and a huge group of other riders paid to be a part of the ride, and also raised money through a raffle. I'm not sure yet how much they raised but from the turnout we saw, the event was a success.

Nick had a really great time, and I think now he'll be looking for more opportunities to go off on a day trip on his scooter. I thought this was a cool fundraising idea---there are a lot more bikers in our midst than we ever could have guessed! It was pretty funny to see different coworkers show up on a Harley. :-) That quiet accountant down the hall in your office just might be a weekend biker---you never know! :-)

I encourage you to read more about Branded here. This is definitely a cause that's worth knowing the facts about and praying for. The average age of a child prostitute in Phoenix is 13 years old. The FBI estimates that well over 100,000 children and young women are trafficked in America today and they range in age from 9 to 19.

Wow! 100 miles. Very impressive, Nick. Next time maybe you should think about running!
