Winter on the Prairie

We've noticed that out where we live, what locals call the prairie, it can be significantly warmer than it is near the mountains which are not very far away. We can drive just 10-15 minutes away and we're stunned at how much colder it feels.

It also sometimes snows all morning, then the sun comes out and melts it all, the clouds blow away and it's suddenly warm and sunny with clear blue skies.

The weather here in Colorado is weird and we can't keep up. For example, one day Connor and I went to our favorite trail for a walk. It felt pretty nice out to me. We dressed in sweaters and jeans and wore our hats. But when we arrived, it was really cold! The wind was blowing on the prairie mighty fierce.

We were brave and started down the trail anyway...

Then, Connor just stopped as if he could not understand what was going on. It was so cold, even he noticed.

The wind blew in our faces. I asked Connor if it was too cold, did he want to go back to the car and go home?

Connor then did something he's never done before: totally abandoned our outing and ran for the car! I was freezing too and would have gotten to the car just as quickly had I not been laughing so hard at Connor.

The car! The car! The heater! The heater!!

And this my friends, is the last time we attempted a real hike or long walk of any sort. As much as Connor embraces all things in life and attempts all things with enthusiasm and joy, he is still an Arizona baby.
